“Living Temples” is a multimedia art project that merges sound, nature, and electronic music through contemporary technology. Field recordings from Curonian sacred sites intertwine with the sounds made with natural objects — the resonance of tree branches, the textures of stones, the rustles of bird feathers — and improvisations played with archaic shamanic instruments, including drums, rattles, flutes, and kanklės (traditional Lithuanian zithers).
In this project, Augustinas Našlėnas collaborates with music creators and performers Vilius Jokubaitis, Emilija Lendraitytė-Timinskė, Deividas Timinskas, Agota Zdanavičiūtė, and Darius Vilius.
“Our creative method is to treat each place as a living being (genius loci) and compose music in collaboration with it.”
Spells from the book “Lithuanian Verbal Healing Charms” by Daiva Vaitkevičienė are recited during performances.
